The installation itself usually takes 2 to 3 working days, spread over roughly a week so the concrete around the posts can cure. Before that come the estimate, any local approval, the MISS DIG 811 notice and a place on our schedule.
What happens, in order
- A free visit to measure the yard, followed by a written quote.
- City, township, historic district or association approval, where it is needed.
- MISS DIG 811 request, at least three business days before we dig.
- Old fence removed, holes dug, posts set in concrete and left to cure.
- Rails and panels or mesh, then gates, clean-up and a walk-through with you.
What slows a fence job down in Ann Arbor?
- The spring rush, when the frost is out and everyone wants a fence at once.
- Waiting on an association board or a historic district review.
- Frozen ground in the middle of winter.
- Long spells of rain, which fill holes with water in clay soil.
- Stones, large roots and steep ground.
- Special-order materials and custom gates.
We are getting a dog in three weeks and have no fence. What is fastest?
Phone us now, because the approval check and the MISS DIG notice use up some of that time. Stocked materials such as chain link and standard wood panels can be installed soonest. If the full yard cannot be ready, we can enclose a small area by the back door first and extend it later.
We are putting in a pool. Fence before or after?
Partly before and partly after. The excavator needs a way in, so the access side stays open while the pool is built. Once the heavy work is finished, the barrier is completed and must pass inspection before the pool is used.
My association says fix the fallen panels by Monday and my contractor keeps delaying. Can a handyman patch it?
A handyman patch on your own fence is your decision, and it will usually satisfy the deadline. Read your contract first. Then tell the contractor in writing what was patched and why, so the final repair and its price stay clear.
We price every fence after seeing the yard. The estimate is free and comes in writing. Call (734) 441-3554 or text us a photo of the fence line.
