How Much Does a Fence Cost in Ann Arbor in 2026?

Fence cost in Ann Arbor for 2026: national price per foot by material, 6-foot privacy fence cost, gates, slopes, tear-out and what moves a quote.

How Much Does a Fence Cost in Ann Arbor in 2026?

Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026, which puts a 150-foot yard at $3,000 to $9,000. Those are national numbers. We have no fixed Ann Arbor price list, because two yards on the same street can be very different jobs: one flat and sandy, the next on a hill with oak roots and stones.

These price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not Ann Arbor Fence quotes. Labor rates, material prices and what we find in your yard change the number. Last checked October 2026.

How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?

The national range for a 6-foot privacy fence is $25 to $60 per foot installed. The totals below use the general $20 to $60 range for a typical fence. A 6-foot privacy fence has more wood in it and needs stouter posts, so expect to be in the upper half of each row.

Fence lengthTypical installed cost
50 feet$1,000 to $3,000
100 feet$2,000 to $6,000
150 feet$3,000 to $9,000

What is the cheapest fence to have installed?

Chain link is the cheapest, starting near $9 per foot in the national figures. For privacy at the lowest cost, look at a pressure-treated pine fence with plain dog-ear boards. To keep a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5-foot chain link does the job, and black coated mesh blends into a wooded Ann Arbor lot better than bare galvanized. Check the city's rules and any association rules before choosing, since some neighborhoods do not accept chain link.

Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?

Aluminum is cheaper than wrought iron, at $25 to $75 per foot against $50 to $85. Its range overlaps vinyl at $30 to $60. Aluminum also racks to follow a slope, which saves labor on the hilly lots common here.

How much extra does a gate cost?

Each gate is priced on its own, by width, material and hardware. A single walk gate adds the least. A double drive gate needs larger posts and more concrete. An automatic opener, with power run to it, is a further step up. Our quote lists every gate as a separate line.

How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?

We cannot give a flat figure, because these are the items that vary most. In Ann Arbor the usual extras are a yard that falls toward a creek or the river, roots from mature trees, buckthorn and honeysuckle grown into the old fence line, and hauling away the old fence with its concrete. All of them add labor. We look at each during the visit and write the cost into the quote.

I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?

Trust the quote that spells out the most. Line them up and compare length, height, grade of material, post size, depth of the holes, number of gates, tear-out, disposal and permit. Hole depth explains many gaps between Michigan quotes. Digging to about 42 inches takes far longer than digging to 24, and only one of those survives the frost.

Does a fence add value to my home?

It helps a house appeal to buyers who have dogs or children, and a tired fence can put them off. It is unlikely to return its full cost at sale. Whether it changes your assessment is up to the city or township assessor.
